There is a reason why!!

Evening jogs are my best timing for meditating about my eventful life! The preparation for a jog usually ends with setting the music to give me the pace and concentration. Thank God for my gift of an IPod 4 years ago and the running shoes from a couple friends who visit Uganda every year! My kids always ask to go with me mainly because they would like us to share the music. May be this would turn out a great adventure for both of us but I always decline  because there are many hills in the area and the distance I cover would be quite long for them!

As I leave, I think they imagine all I am doing in those 50 minutes is enjoying the music, and alone! The reality is, I always catch myself thinking about childhood events that I had to sail through to come this far. A conversation I had with Martin (not real names) a week ago about my work and passion has brewed tones and tones of feelings of gratitude since then!  As we talked about what I do and my passion, he was surprised I had to  be the head of my family and raise my two sisters right from 11 years.

Not surprising: An orphan child head carrying a young sibling moving around the village to find mangoes for a meal
His response as I described one of those days amused me and had to mute for a moment! He said '...I can never do that...' I immediately thought he did not intend to speak that, yet during the yesterday's evening jog my heart reminded me how God wanted him to remind me how loving He has been to see me through events including those Martin 'can never' imagine going through, although for a reason! This reason is why God always makes me meet orphans child heads who are overwhelmed as I was at 11 years. As I came to close to home, ending the jog, I vividly remembered the compassion of the people who always allowed us to lunch and dine on their mangoes; plus the support I got to be able to attend school. I strongly feel that without the support of different people, each in their respective capacities and locations, I would not be alive.

I want to thank you for being such a great partners of RODI as we work every day to love and restore hope among children some of whom are child heads for their families already. Keep sharing the story whenever you have an opportunity and contact us if you have any questions about what we do.

May God continue to bless you.
